Music of the Primes by Marcus du Sautoy

My favourite modern mathematician, Marcus du Sautoy, is one of the most enthusiastic advocates of my subjects. I love his TV programmes such as Horizon and The Beauty of Diagrams, and have shown them to my pupils who have been similarly entertained and educated by his engaging comminucation of mathematical ideas.

I was lucky enough to attend his "Music of the Primes" lecture a few years ago and found it both informative and inspiring.

Although I can't find a decent version of the lecture on YouTube, there is a podcast from Blackwell Books in which Marcus du Sautoy talks about his book and explains some of the magic of prime numbers. Click on the picture of Marcus to link to it.

Update 30 Oct: Many thanks to a reader who pointed me towards this TV programme from the BBC where Marcus gives a great version of his Music of the Primes lecture. Click on the link to enjoy if for yourself.
